Reading/Language Arts: Organized into 5 strands:
1. Reading - Students read and understand a wide variety of literary and informational text.
2. Writing - Students compose a variety of written text with clear controlling ideas, coherent organization, and sufficient detail.
3. Research - Students will learn how to locate a range of relevant sources and evaluate, synthesize, and present ideas and information.
4. Listening and Speaking - Students list and respond to the ideas of others and contribute their own ideas in conversations and in groups.
5. Oral and Written Conventions - Students learn how to use oral and written conventions of the English Language in speaking and writing.
STUDENTS SHOULD WRITE AND READ ON A DAILY BASIS!!!
Math:
The focal points for 2nd grade math is developing an understanding of the base-ten numeration system and place value concepts, developing quick recall of addition and related subtraction facts as well as multi-digit addition and subtraction, and developing an understanding of linear measurement. These skills will be developed through skills such as graphing, probability, addition, subtraction, measurement, geometry, fractions, and problem solving.
Science:
We will learn about Matter and Energy; Weather; Force, Motion, and Energy; Earth and Space; Plants; and Animals. We will do lots of hands-on lessons.
Social Studies:
We will learn about our Community; Our Earth; Working Together; Local, State, and Federal Government; People and Places in History; and Economics (Goods/Services; Producers/Consumers).

90 - 100 = A
80 - 89 = B
70 - 79 = C
69 below = Failing
Conduct
S = Satisfactory
N = Needs Improvement
U = Unsatisfactory
A students' conduct each 6 weeks will be based upon notes received in their Daily Folder.
0 - 3 notes = S
4 - 6 notes = N
More than 6 = U

Spelling Spiral, Read 20 minutes each night, Bucket Math, Read for AR goal, and occasionally home projects for Science, Social Studies, and Writing Activities

~ Conference Day -
Please sign up for a time. We are scheduling conferences 2 weeks early so if you can find a date/time that will work for you please sign up early.
~ Field Trips -
George Bush Library in the fall, Zoo in the Spring
~ Birthday Celebrations -
Drop refreshments off in the office by noon, pre-cut and ready to serve. We will celebrate when we have a chance.
~ Miscellaneous -
Lunch - The students are responsible for keeping up with their own lunch money. If you would like to come eat lunch with your child, please make sure you are there on time so your child will get their full lunch time. Our time is 11:33.
Transportation - If your child is changing transportation for the day, please send in a note or call the office so they can get a note to us.
Parent Volunteers - We would love to have you volunteer this year so please sign up. You must also fill out the VIP form in the office before you can volunteer!
Wish List - If you would like to send in additional supplies for the classroom please take an item from the wish list. We GREATLY appreciate it!
